JM Glendinning client director set for charity bike challenge

JM Glendinning client director David Fryer is preparing to cycle 260 miles in just three days for Huddersfield Town’s 11th Pedal for Pounds charity bike ride.

The challenge will see participants bike from the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield to Cardiff City Stadium between the 26th and 29th of April.  David is one of only four people to have taken part in every event since its inception in 2009.

Started by Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle in 2009, the annual charity bike ride has raised almost £2.5m over the last 14 years. Everything raised during this year’s ride will go towards funding the important work of Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Huddersfield Town Foundation, as well as men’s suicide prevention charity, Andy’s Man Club, and family respite charity, Ruddi’s Retreat.

David Fryer says, “From a group of just 19 in our first year up to 200 participants in 2023, I’m proud to be one of only four people who have completed every event. COVID took its toll, but we’re back with a vengeance this year and looking forward to hopefully raising more than ever for some great causes.

“I practise every night after work around my local country lanes; when you work in business all day, it’s nice to have a physical challenge to take you away from the daily rigours and challenges. Over the last 14 years, I’ve been pushed to my limit; it’s very difficult, but the feeling when you finish is euphoric!”

Day one of Pedal for Pounds 2023: the Land of the Dragon will be particularly gruelling, with the team cycling 110 miles through the Peak District from Huddersfield to Litchfield. On day two they will need to complete 60 miles to reach Worcester and day three will see them complete the final 90 miles to Cardiff via the Brecon Beacons for a grand total of 260 miles.
