ON THE SPOT: Jake Fox, Managing Director at JM Glendinning Professional Risks (recently featured in the Yorkshire Post)

What was your first job?

A summer job in Edinburgh when I was 16, packing boxes of books at a local printer. Tough work but I was grateful for the wage.

If you weren’t in your present position, what would you be doing?

I’d love to run my own art gallery. My parents collected art and their passion for it rubbed off on me as I grew up.

What is the worst mistake you’ve ever made?

I didn’t work hard enough during my first year at university so I had to re-sit the year and I had to self –fund as my grant was withdrawn. It’s taught me an incredibly valuable lesson in life.

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

A day in the Yorkshire Dales with my wife and children. Why travel further when we have such scenery on our doorstep.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

My grandfather, Peter Fox, who died when I was really young. He served in the second world war with the Green Howards and was granted a Distinguished Service Order. I have huge respect for what he and others of his generation did for us all, but I had too few years with him to find out more.

What was your best subject at school?

I loved the analytical side of Physics and went on to study Physics at University.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy rugby, although I tend to watch it more on the TV these days than play it.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Without hesitation, I’d open an art gallery.

What is your top time saving tip?

Build a strong team and delegate in line with their strengths.

What is your favourite time of day?

The most precious time is the quiet time in the evening, sharing a bedtime story with my kids.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

My Scotland rugby shirt. I am fiercely proud of my roots.

What’s the best thing about being in Yorkshire?

It’s the most beautiful county in the country with some incredibly welcoming people.

What would your epitaph be?

He was alright for an insurance broker!
